Maurice M. Simmons Scholarship Fund

Graduating seniors across Gordon County have the opportunity to apply for scholarships that support their pursuit of higher education and vocational training. By helping students achieve their educational goals, VFC is not only investing in their futures but also enriching the broader community for years to come. Sister Janice Mosley serves as the chair and main contact for the scholarship committee.

Each January, applications open for the Maurice M. Simmons Scholarship, a fund rooted in compassion and vision. The scholarship was inspired by a moving encounter in which Bishop Maurice Simmons met a young person with dreams of furthering their education but no financial means to do so. Deeply touched, Bishop Simmons established the VFC Scholarship Fund in 2009 to help deserving students overcome financial barriers.

Following Bishop Simmons’ passing, the fund was renamed in his honor as the Maurice M. Simmons Scholarship Fund. Over the past 16 years, VFC has awarded more than $65,000 in scholarship support. Our long-term vision is to one day offer full-ride scholarships to qualifying students pursuing college degrees or vocational certifications.

Your generosity makes this vision possible. Together, we can continue to honor Bishop Simmons’ legacy and empower the next generation of leaders.
